The key distinction is that the mechanical architecture is not hidden beneath a decorative dial. Bridges, gears, barrels and screws directly form the visual structure of the front display, creating genuine mechanical depth from different viewing angles.

Manual winding also preserves the openness of the skeleton architecture by eliminating an automatic rotor that would otherwise cover part of the movement. Winding through the crown therefore becomes part of the mechanical experience of the timepiece.
